Ryan Shumon Rahman, MD
Board Certified Family Medicine
I earned my medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine in 2012. I then served as a physician in the US Air Force for 4 years. After this, I moved to Memphis, TN where I completed residency and became board certified in Family Medicine. From 2018 - 2021 I was a teaching physician at University of Tennessee. During this time, I trained both medical students and residents as well as developed educational material and curriculums alongside my clinical duties. My desire to move to Colorado eventually led to a meeting with Dr. Michael Banker, who is helping to make my dream of starting a private practice a reality. I enjoy hiking, biking, backpacking and almost anything active and outdoors. Some of my other interests and hobbies include: music, gardening, DIY home projects, cooking, and meditation. My wife is Anna Chollet, MD and we have 2 children, Sarabi and Hakeem. We all live here in Cañon City, CO.
I've been married for 27 years to my husband, Paul and I have one son, James. We moved here from Southern California 17 years ago because my husband wanted to raise our son in a small town where we could enjoy the mountains, nature and all 4 seasons. I have been in the medical field for 28 years. I started off as a Certified Medical Assistant and worked in many fields like Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Allergy and Asthma, Surgery and Family Practice. I love the medical field and I found that I loved the business side more than the clinical side. I come from a very musically inclined family and I love music from all genres. I love animals and currently I have a 3 year old Rottweiler named Athena, a 17 year old Chihuahua/Pug mix named Daisy and a small cat we call Little Cat.I am so thrilled to be a part of Dr. Rahman’s new practice and I look forward to helping him create his vision of wellness for Fremont county.
I moved to Canon City in the mid 90's relocating from Arizona after a year, and before such growing up in Westminster, Colorado from the age of 10. Although I was born in Chicago, I have always considered Colorado my real home. I love the outdoors and all it entails, to include camping, hiking, fishing, nature walks, stargazing, sunrises to sunsets and all things mountain related.
I obtained my nursing license in 2003 and am proud to say that I was a participant of the very 1st year of the local college after the completion of the new PCC Fremont Campus being built. I am blessed with 2 boys who I am very proud of and am grateful for every day.
My nursing career thus far has led me to many opportunities: medical-surgical, family practices, home health, just to mention a few. It has also aided me in the caretaking of my mother until her passing.
I love to learn new things and am very excited to be part of such a special new practice with Dr. Rahman. People and helping people are the driving force behind me always wanting to be a better version of myself and I look forward to applying my skills and knowledge and be a part of your medical journey. I am excited for the opportunity to know each and every patient.
I am a proud mother of three grown children and have spent the past twenty four years raising them along with my hard working husband. My background includes an extensive knowledge of horses. I raised, trained, showed, barrel raced, and taught others the gift of being a well rounded horse person. I was a 4-H and open horse show judge. I raised Paints and Quarter Horses on my farm in Tennessee. I was born in Tennessee and grew up there as well as Washington State. I love the mountains and could never live anywhere that didn't have mountains. In 1997 I lived in Penrose for a couple years before returning to Tennessee. I always loved this area and we decided to move back to Penrose to finish raising our children.
I attended Pierce College in Washington and Northeast State in Tennessee. My background is in business. In addition to running my own business I handle the business side of my husband's trucking business. I love to travel and just enjoy times with my family and friends. We have a German Shepherd named Skylla, five cats, and four horses Bubba, Bandit, Mac, and Chance.
I am honored to be a part of Dr Rahman's practice and look forward to welcoming patients to the clinic.
