Our Team

Ryan Shumon Rahman, MD
Board Certified Family Medicine Physician
I earned my medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine in 2012. I then served as a physician in the US Air Force for 4 years. After this, I moved to Memphis, TN where I completed residency and became board certified in Family Medicine. From 2018 - 2021 I was a teaching physician at University of Tennessee. During this time, I trained both medical students and residents as well as developed educational material and curriculums alongside my clinical duties. My desire to move to Colorado eventually led to a meeting with Dr. Michael Banker, who is helping to make my dream of starting a private practice a reality. I enjoy hiking, biking, backpacking and almost anything active and outdoors. Some of my other interests and hobbies include: music, gardening, DIY home projects, cooking, and meditation. My wife is Anna Chollet, MD and we have 2 children, Sarabi and Hakeem. We all live here in Cañon City, CO.

Tara
Business Manager
I've been married for 27 years to my husband, Paul and I have one son, James. We moved here from Southern California 17 years ago because my husband wanted to raise our son in a small town where we could enjoy the mountains, nature and all 4 seasons. I have been in the medical field for 28 years. I started off as a Certified Medical Assistant and worked in many fields like Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Allergy and Asthma, Surgery and Family Practice. I love the medical field and I found that I loved the business side more than the clinical side. I come from a very musically inclined family and I love music from all genres. I love animals and currently I have a 3 year old Rottweiler named Athena, a 17 year old Chihuahua/Pug mix named Daisy and a small cat we call Little Cat.I am so thrilled to be a part of Dr. Rahman’s new practice and I look forward to helping him create his vision of wellness for Fremont county.

Karalyn
Health Coach
Before moving to Canon City in July of 2023, I lived in Fort Collins, CO for eight years. I earned my bachelor's degree in Apparel and Merchandising and once graduating, I worked within management and leadership development for Dutch Bros coffee for six years where I learned all about business, serving the community and empowering people. This platform gave me a growing heart for serving people and helping them reach their goals. How did I end up within health coaching you may ask? Through my own journey with health challenges and personally experiencing the way health and wellness is not a ‘one size fits all’, I discovered a passion I have to help others along their own journey. I earned my Health Coaching Certification through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and am excited to continue pursuing my education in health and wellness. When I am not pursuing these things, I enjoy yoga, cycling, creating with my hands, cooking and being with my people. I am eager to dive into this community and support you all on your journey!

Joanna
Patient Services Representative
Born in Chicago to two Polish immigrants, my family packed up in 1995 and relocated to Cañon City, where I went on to attend school through high school. After graduating from Cañon City High School, I pursued a degree in Health Sciences at UCCS in Colorado Springs. I had always known I wanted to be in the medical field, and that passion led me to Kraków, Poland, where I studied medicine at Jagiellonian University Medical College, the same institution where Copernicus once studied!
I spent four incredible years living in Kraków, taking every opportunity to explore Europe during my free time. After completing my studies abroad, I returned home to Cañon City, where I’m continuing my journey toward becoming a Family Physician. I’m especially excited to learn from Dr. Rahman in a Direct Primary Care setting, which aligns closely with my values and vision for community based care.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy skiing, gardening, mushroom foraging, and caring for my dogs, chickens, and ducks. I’m also an avid concert-goer, especially when it comes to the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift! As a proud Cañon City native, I’m thrilled to be part of Desert River Med and all that it offers for this community that I love.
